Why do you do what you do? I’m talking big picture here. Why do you live your life the way you do? Why do you have the job or business that you do? Why do you have your spouse or kids? Why do you treat people the way you do?
To get the most out of life, it’s important and necessary to do a fair amount of self examination.

Did you catch that last line? When you know your why, your what has more impact.
Think about it. We all get up in the morning and go do our thing. If you’re reading this you likely work for yourself or have your own company. But why do you have that? Why do you do what you do?
The best way I know to explain this is through my own personal WHY and WHAT’s.
My why is to Connect others to the people, resources, brands, events and opportunities so they can live the life of their dreams.
This has taken me a LONG time to define it and to tell you truth, I’m not exactly sure how I did. But I can tell you 2 things about it.
Number 1 … It’s what God put me on earth to do and number 2 … even though God put me on earth to do this, in someway I still chose my why.
This WHY holds true in every facet of my life … in my work, with my wife and kids, in my religion and in every other part of my life. Let me give you some personal examples.
Recently, I decided to run a half marathon. So I invited others to do it with me? I did that so they could help accomplish their goals. So my why is connecting them to an opportunity to improve their fitness and the what is the half marathon.
Another angle on the half marathon … I choose to do this to be in better shape. Why? So I can physically be strong enough to help others better and so I can help guide my children. So my why is to better myself so I can help connect more people and my WHAT is the half marathon.
I encouraged my daughter to enroll in the Improv comedy class. I did this because I thought she’d have fun, gain confidence and maybe find a new passion. So my why was to connect her to an opportunity to improve herself and the what is the Improv class.
A few weeks ago, my wife and I created a Facebook group that connects families in our community who have kids that play sports. The group is for these families to buy, sell and exchange sports gear. Why did we do this? It was to connect our community and help others find gear they needed without having to buy something brand new. So our why was to connect and our WHAT is the Facebook group.
Recently I introduced a new brand called Brand Building Events. It’s purpose is to be a directory of the events that entrepreneurs, small business owners, marketers and executives should attend or sponsor. So my WHAT is a simple website that lists events, speakers & sponsors. My WHY is the same as always … to connect others to something that will help them accomplish their goals.
It always comes down to the same why, but my WHATs change … get it?!?
You see, none of these examples are massive earth moving or life saving instances. Instead, they are simple day-to-day examples of living a why.
I find that the more I remind myself of my WHY, the easier it is to live it. And the more I live that WHY, the more value I create and the more others are blessed. And the more others are bless, the more successful I am.
The late, great Zig Ziglar said, “You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help enough other people get what they want.”
I truly believe that. Now, I certainly don’t have everything I want in life, so there are many more people I need to help.
Here’s another interesting thought about WHYs. Nearly every single WHY someone has shared with me has to do with helping others. I want you to be okay and be excited about helping others. Because that’s what life is really all about.
A few years ago I took a course through a group called Landmark Education. This course lasted for 3 days and each of us were paired with someone else. Our sole job for the entire course was to ensure that the other person got what they needed out of the course. That was it!
Yes, you are here to live your life to the best of your ability. You are here to get as much out of life as you possibly can. Want to know how to do it? Help other get what they want.

I connect brands to sponsorship and partnership opportunities that help them grow their businesses. To explain how this helps others, let me show you how the money works.
With many of the deals I close, a sponsor purchases a sponsorship package for an upcoming event. (there our other types of deals I work with, but let’s just use this example.)
When the deal closes, I earn a commission. I use the to feed my family. I’m taken care of and I’m happy.
The event host who I’m contracted by uses the remaining money to pay for the event.
The Sponsor comes to the event, showcases why they are awesome and gains new leads and sales from the attendees.
The attendees then use the product or service they bought from the sponsor to improve their lives and their businesses.
COUNTLESS dollars have now been influenced. In a typical deal, it’s easy for me to track hundreds of thousands of dollars that are influenced by a simple sponsorship deal. Now, it’s not just about the money, but money in this case is a great indicator of what is really at work.
Your WHY is vitally important. And not just with business, but in every aspect of your life! Each of us has a why behind everything we do. But only some of us have intentionally created that why. Too many couldn’t define their why.
So let me ask you again, why do you do what you do? Why did you wake up this morning and go and do what ever you did?
